Police searching for distraction burglar after offender claims to be repairing toilet

Police are searching for a burglar after two incidents in Poole within two hours.

At around 1pm on Tuesday October 9, a young man attended a property at Symes Road, Hamworthy and stated he was there to repair the toilet. The man entered the house, pushing past the elderly victim and went into the bedroom. He stole cash from a handbag and left.

Two hours later, a man in his early twenties attended an address along Phyldon Close, Parkstone, also claiming he was there to repair the toilet. He entered the house, demanding money as deposit for the work.

After being given cash by the elderly victim, the offender left the property without carrying out any work.

The burglar is described as white, about 21 years old and of slim build. He has short brown hair and was clean shaven. He was wearing a dark navy boiler suit and a white cloth glove on his right hand. He was very softly spoken with a Scottish accent.

Detective Constable Chris Raspini of Poole and Bournemouth CID, said: "I would urge anyone who recognises this man to contact me as soon as possible.

"I am appealing for anyone who witnessed either of these incidents, has any information about those responsible or has seen anything suspicious in those areas to call Dorset Police urgently.

"I want people to be aware of the method being used to gain entry to these properties and for householders to be vigitalnt of this offender."
