Police in Bournemouth are searching for an offender after a failed robbery attempt at a bank.

A lone suspect attempted a robbery at the NatWest bank on Southbourne Grove yesterday at around 12pm.

Nobody was hurt and no money was stolen during the incident. Members of the public were believed to be inside the bank during the attempted raid.

Armed police officers searched the area, while a big police presence remained for much of yesterday.

Detective inspector Becky Riggs of Bournemouth CID said: "I am appealing for witnesses and anyone with information about this incident to contact Dorset Police urgently.

"There was no sighting of any weapon and I believe this was the work of a lone offender.

"I am keen to bring this offender to justice. I would encourage anyone who has any information to call us in confidence on 101."
