Plymouth too strong for Gills in FA Vase
Plymouth Parkway 2, Gillingham Town 0
GILLINGHAM Town crashed out of the FA Vase against a strong Plymouth Parkway side.
Goals from Gavin Coulton and Steve Colwell were enough to take the Devon side past the under-strength Gills - despite a good performance from Aaron Rodriguez.
Jamie Beale was called into action early on, making some sharp saves to deny the hosts taking the lead. Gary Bowles almost opened the scoring for the Gills when he latched onto a cross from Danny Thompson. Plymouth goalkeeper Ben Elphick made a great reaction save from Bowles' headed effort.

Thompson spurned a great chance to open the scoring when he was sent through on goal by Rodriguez. Unfortunately for the Gills, he dragged his shot wide of the post.
In first half stoppage time the home side finally made the breakthrough. The Gills failed to clear from a corner, allowing Coulton to fire home from close range.
Gillingham were caught cold after the restart - with Plymouth doubling their advantage on 49 minutes. A scuffed shot from long range found its way to Colwell - who rounded Beale before calmly slotting the ball home - despite a suspicion of offside. The home defence remained strong - with Aidan Chainey coming close to giving the Gills a lifeline - but his shot was tipped over the bar by Elphick.
