Hundreds of anti-Tesco protesters in Sherborne were joined by Paddy the horse yesterday.

The tongue-in-cheek taunt at Tesco following the recent horse meat scandal acted as an 'added bonus' according to a spokesperson for campaign group 'No Thanks Tesco.'

Paddy was found outside Digby Hall, where the third and final public consultation was held into Tesco's plans.

Looking after Paddy was Lucy Atherton. "Paddy is here as a current reminder of why people don't want Tesco" she said.

"With the recent horse meat scandal, Tesco isn't the most popular of companies - and I wanted to show that we don't need or want a store opening here.

"I can't believe so many people were willing to shut their businesses to show their support."

Over 200 people marched through Sherborne to show their anger at Tesco's plans to open a store on the site of The Sherborne Hotel.

An exit poll conducted by 'Keep Sherborne Viable' at yesterday's consultation revealed that 88 per cent of 753 people asked were against the plans.
