West Dorset MP Oliver Letwin opened the new look Martinstown Post office - which will see opening hours extended by over 30 hours a week.

Newly appointed subpostmistress Emily Trent has been able to restore services at the Post Office, which closed in April 2011 after the retirement of the former subpostmaster.

Ms Trent said: "People really love having their local Post Office open again. Customers really appreciate that they can buy their groceries and do their Post Office transactions all at the one counter - this has proved very popular.

"Customers are very happy with the longer trading hours as the opening hours are much more convenient as they can now visit before or after work or school runs or call in at the weekend - whatever suits them."

Martinstown Post Office is now open Monday to Friday; 8am to 6:30pm, Saturday 8am to 6pm and on Sundays from 9am until 1pm.

Mr Letwin officially re-opened the Post Office by cutting the ribbon last week.

"It is great news that Martinstown has a Post Office once again" said Mr Letwin.

"What's even better still is that this Post office is now modern and is open much longer than before. These longer trading hours will really benefit residents and small businesses.

"Customers are already taking advantage of the longer opening hours each day and the fact that this Post Office is even open on a Sunday - I am delighted to be asked to re-open this office."
