North Dorset Council to save thousands by cutting free bus travel
Plans to stop funding for free bus travel before 9:30am in North Dorset have been given the go-ahead by councillors.
North Dorset District Council will continue to fund concessionary bus passes between 9:30am and 11pm - hoping to save taxpayers around £20,000.

Free bus pass holders in North Dorset will no longer be able to use the service before 9:30am
Research has shown that less than 80 journeys are made in North Dorset before 9:30am each week.
Cllr Val Pothecary, portfolio holder for Community and Regeneration at North Dorset District Council, said: "Currently anyone with a North Dorset Concessionary Bus Pass is entitled to use their pass to travel anywhere at any time - for free.

"Quite clearly, there are some people using their pass or community transport to access medical services.
"The Council has agreed to set aside a grant fund of £5,000 to provide support for vulnerable elderly and disabled people in North Dorset."
Fully registered blind residents will still be entitled to travel for free at all times, and all pass holders will still be able to travel free of charge before 9:30am if there is no other bus before 10:25am.
