New walk-in health centre in Yeovil
YEOVIL Health Centre, the new walk-n facility funded by NHS Somerset was officially opened this week on the first floor of the Boots store in Middle Street. Open from 8am till 8pm, 365 days a year, the centre, which opened its doors on 12th August, has already been seeing more than 40 patients per day.
Yeovil MP David Laws opened the new facility whose doctors are able to offer help with anything from coughs, colds and flu to emergency contraception and minor injuries.
One of the most popular and convenient aspects of the new health centre is its 'walk-in' access to health advice and treatment. Members of the public can also register with the centre if they wish and receive the same high quality of service they would receive from any GP practice.
Dr Paul Scott, Medical Director with the new Yeovil Health Centre, said: "NHS Somerset has asked for a very high level of quality of service for the people of Somerset. We believe that we can deliver this and more. We can do this because of the unique combination of local GP involvement and the introduction of new ways of providing care. Our services are open and available for everyone, particularly those that find it difficult to get to see their usual doctor. Being open 8am-8pm weekends for walk-in patients as well as on weekdays will be a great help for existing hospital Accident & Emergency and GP Out of Hours Services.

"Pathways Health & Social Care Alliance and its staff look forward to fulfilling this substantial role for the people of Somerset."
Chief Executive of NHS Somerset, Ian Tipney, said: "NHS Somerset has commissioned the GP led Health Centre following a competitive tendering exercise. The new health service, which will be run by local GPs, will provide comprehensive access for Primary Care Services seven days a week. The centre is available to all Somerset residents and visitors and will provide enhanced services for the Yeovil area. We are delighted to see this new facility open and commend the local GPs for all their hard work in making this happen."
