No handbrake and passengers in the boot
WHEN police stopped a teenage driver in Milborne Port – with a group of friends being carried in the boot – they also discovered the car's handbrake was not working.
While the officers were speaking to Thomas William Westwell they were able to push the car despite the handbrake being fully applied.
And when they looked into the rear hatch of the Vauxhall Corsa they discovered five passengers who were sitting in the boot space without any seats.
Westwell, 18, of Bauntons Orchard, Milborne Port, pleaded guilty to using a vehicle when the handbrake was not in good working order on July 14 last year.

He also admitted using a vehicle when the number and manner in which passengers were being carried in it was likely to cause danger to any person when he appeared before South Somerset and Mendip Magistrates.
The court was told that Westwell was stopped by police in North Street and he confessed that the car would roll backwards if he took his foot off the brake as the handbrake had broken four hours earlier.
After the officers saw the five passengers in the boot, the defendant also admitted he had picked them up after the handbrake had failed.
He was issued with a prohibition notice to cease using the vehicle.
Westwell told the magistrates that he had passed his driving test in May 2011 and was a self-employed bricklaying apprentice.
He was banned from driving for 14 days and fined £135 for the handbrake offence and £65 for the second matter.
Costs of £35 and a £15 victim surcharge were also imposed.
