BIG improvements are taking place at Parley Golf Centre as an interior designer responsible for some of the region's best-known establishments transforms the club house and changing rooms.

Katie Hamilton, who oversaw refurbishments of The Ox at Ashley Cross, The Manor, the Ship and The Lamb at Christchurch, has offered her creativity to the golf centre. As well as a fresh look, new furniture and a new kitchen, the popular cafe is teaming up with local food suppliers to launch a new menu.

The work, which will be complete just before Christmas, is aimed at encouraging members and guests to stay and socialise after a round of golf and at attracting non-golfers who come to enjoy the countryside estate.

Centre manager Cath Griffiths said: "We already have a highly sociable and loyal membership base and I hope that by making their changing area and cafe/bar more attractive we'll attract others to the club and will appeal to local businesses which may be looking for space to hold corporate events.

"The golf clubs sits within a stunning riverside estate which is a real haven for wildlife and the new rustic design, which is coming to life here over the coming months, aims to reflect that very special setting."

The first phase of work to improve the café was carried out over a series of evenings this autumn so as not to disrupt play.

The nine-hole golf course, which forms part of an 800 acre estate opposite Bournemouth Airport, opened in 1991 and includes a 27 bay covered, floodlit driving range.
