New iPads enhance teaching and learning
There was great excitement amongst pupils in Years 7 and 8 at Salisbury Cathedral School as they returned from their summer break. Every pupil has been allocated a new iPad to use throughout the school day and at home, benefiting from this revolutionary technology in all their lessons.
Over the last year, the school has trialled iPads in the science department in a number of imaginative and creative ways, including filming and editing documentaries as a way to summarise a topic. The possibilities the new devices offer are boundless. The school sees them as a personal learning studio - they can be a science lab, literacy tool, research history archive, language lab, art canvas, music studio and library – all rolled into one neat and tactile device.
Speaking of the investment, Duncan Hodson, Assistant Head, said "Using iPads will enable ICT to be integrated seamlessly into the curriculum. Traditionally, ICT has been taught through the use of a suite of computers, leading to the mantra from pupils "We're doing computers now". What we needed was a way to use ICT across the whole school - in any lesson, in an instant. Our new wireless network and iPads will enable this to happen as part of our commitment to ensuring our pupils are at the forefront of creative learning."
