New facilities and more opportunities on show at Yeovil
THE extended A Level Academy and new Centre for Independent Living Skills are among facilities that potential students and their parents can see for the first time at Yeovil College's Full-time and Apprenticeships Open Evening on Monday 21st October.
The A Level Academy is a £1.1 million development project which has created a space to meet the specific needs of A Level students. The Academy includes state-of-the-art teaching and study areas, as well as existing open plan Science laboratories, designed to stimulate and support students as they work towards their qualifications. Yeovil College full-time A Level students gain consistently high pass rates, achieving 99% or above every year for the past five years.
The Centre for Independent Living Skills was completed earlier this year thanks to a £330,000 grant from Dorset County Council, part of a Government pledge to support all students into training, work and a fully active role in society. The Centre has been specifically designed to extend and improve existing resources for students with additional and specialist learning needs. The innovative two storey centre enables students to develop the personal skills to live independently and, potentially, employability skills too.
The new facilities are the latest in a series of large-scale development projects undertaken by Yeovil College to improve resources and the student experience. Visitors will also be encouraged to see the Nexus Hair and Beauty Salons, Renaissance Diner and refurbished Da Vinci Restaurant, as well as specialist facilities such as the Engineering workshops and Media studio. Vocational results have risen to a 96% pass rate this year, while achievement rates for Apprentices also remain well above the national average.
