New Years hunt at Exford on the Moor
The Devon and Somerset Stag Hounds were out in force on New Year's Day when around 20 riders turned up and another 30 spectators were following on foot or driving at the meet at Exford on Exmoor. Hunt spokesman Richard Bowden, from Minehead, said the recent cold weather meant there were fewer riders than previous years. He said: "We had a very nice trail hunt but usually we do have more riders, but a lot of people who have horses couldn't prepare and get them fit enough in time. It was quite a sudden thaw and I think it took people by surprise." He added: "We had to cancel our New Year's Eve hunt because of the fog so it was nice to get out." The hunt will be in action again today at Honeymead Cross, between Exford and Simmonsbath, at 11am
