"All too often when people take on a caring role they are faced with difficult decisions and challenges - having to work less or give up work altogether, managing less income, having to give up hobbies and interests due to lack of time, coping with the impact on family life of caring for someone who needs constant attention.

"We want to highlight that there is support for carers and a range of services available to support them. People do not need to cope alone."

One in five people will become a carer, providing unpaid care to someone we know who is ill, frail or disabled.

In Dorset, 42,000 people provide care on a regular basis.

Some of the events taking place in Dorset include Dorchester Information Day at the Dortford Centre, Bridport Road on Thursday December 6 between 9.30am and 3,30pm; Wimborne Information Day at the Hanham Centre, Wednesday December 5 between 10am and 3pm; Gillingham Information Day at the Peacemarsh Doctors Surgery on Friday November 30 between 10am and 1pm.
