Shepton Mallet Suzuki star Darren Banwell is the current leader of the experts class in the South West Off Road Motocross Championship, and he will be intent on consolidating his advantage in the Chard club’s round at the Tiverton Moto-Park at Halberton tomorrow.

However, it will not be an easy assignment as the line-up also includes 2011 title holder James Kensington, as well as Gary Norman, Ryan Allen, Mike Rowe, Ben Butler and Kelvin Townsend.

Leading contenders in the senior class races include Ryan Stonier, Tallon Veale, Olly Savery and Andy Watkins, who dominated the class races in last weekend’s round at Moreleigh in Devon. With no fewer than 21 races to complete before dusk it has to be a 10am start coupled with slick organisation throughout the day.

The West of England club are staging the only round of the South West Enduro Championship outside of Cornwall, at Wolborough Barton near Newton Abbot the same day.

Around 130 are competing in the three-hour marathon on a six-mile circuit including main title contenders Chris and Steve Dustow and Nick Life.

The misery for grass racing fans continues with the news of the cancellation of the South West of England Association’s meeting at Thorverton, also in Devon, on Sunday owing to lack of rider support.

However, there is a wide choice of trial events throughout the weekend.

The North Somerset Club’s timed and observation event tomorrow morning has been switched to Malthouse Farm, Chelwood from Wick Lane near Pensford.

Upwards of 50 are expected to take part in the hour-long battle against the clock including Jason Hamblin, Peter King, Paul Manning, Shane Lovatt, Jeremy Cross and Simon Prideaux.

Around 90 are expected to compete in the Bath classic clubs pre 1965 and British Bike trial at Ayford near Marshfield the same day including a contingent from Gloucestershire and others from as far afield as Devon and Oxfordshire.

The Mendip Vale Club have an observation only event at Croxbottom Farm near Chilcompton.

This caters for all classes and entries will be accepted at the start.

The Moretonhampstead club have a South West Centre event at Christow in the Teign Valley near Chudleigh, and there are events this afternoon at Langport and Princetown on Dartmoor.
