Merged management posts will save council £80,000
TWO senior management posts at New Forest District Council will be merged to create a new head of service role for the council next year.
The new post of head of housing and customer services was agreed by Cabinet this week in preparation for the retirement of current head of housing, Dave Brown. The new role will be taken on in January by current head of customer services, Glynne Miles.
The decision is part of the council's ongoing senior management review and the reduction in post will save the council around £80,000. This is in addition to the £330,000 savings achieved from phase one of the senior management review in 2011 and £75,000 from phase two in 2012.
Dave Brown joined the council in 1990. He started off as a senior building surveyor in the health and housing directorate and progressed through the ranks to his current position as head of housing.

In 2012 Dave put the council’s new 30-year housing strategy in place, which will see the provision of over 200 new council homes by 2018 – the biggest boost for much-needed affordable housing in the district in decades.
Leader of the council, Councillor Barry Rickman, said: “Merging this post with another head of service role is a sensible way to help us make important savings as we face continued financial pressures.
“This council is continually looking at the best way forward to provide excellent service to the people of the New Forest and I believe we will be well placed to face the challenges that lie ahead with this new structure.”
New Forest District Council’s portfolio holder for housing and communities, Councillor Jill Cleary added: “Dave will be greatly missed but I'm confident that these proposals are the right way forward as we continue to deliver an excellent housing service."
