Mazda CX-5
MAZDA are late arrivals in the booming compact SUV sector of the market but the all-new CX-5 is reckoned to be so good that it will make up for lost time.
Launched in the UK last week, it is said to be the cleanest and most fuel-efficient car in its class, with great luggage capacity, a super-flexible seating arrangement and good looks, too.

There is a 2.0-litre petrol version but the engine receiving all the rave reviews is the 2.2-litre diesel, which performs brilliantly. The CX-5 is also a joy to drive, apparently.
The interior is not the greatest, although it comes with plenty of standard kit, such as dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, USB and iPod connections and cruise control. It's not cheap, though. Prices start at £21,395 and rise to almost £29k for the top-spec model
