Man in custody after woman falls from railway bridge in Bournemouth

A man has been arrested after a young woman was injured on a railway line in Bournemouth.

She is believed to have fallen from a bridge and was taken to hospital by ambulance after the incident at 9.55am today near Pokesdown station.

It was earlier thought that she was struck by a train. The woman suffered pelvic, leg and arm injuries.

A Dorset Police spokeswoman said: "We are currently attending an incident at Pokesdown railway station following a report of a woman on the track.

"A woman has been taken to hospital and a man has been arrested.

"As a result of the incident, both northbound and southbound lines were temporarily closed. Both lines are now open."

Buses were put on to replace train services between Bournemouth and Southampton and passengers have been told to expect delays of 40 minutes.
