STAFF, friends and residents of Nazareth Lodge residential care home in Sturminster Newton were joined by North Dorset MP Bob Walter earlier this month to celebrate its 21st anniversary.

Bob opened the home's first extension in 2004 and has made several visits since, taking a close interest in its work.

Nazareth Lodge's end-of-life palliative care work recently won Beacon Status – the highest of three levels – as part of the Gold Standard Framework (GSF) in Care Homes.

"As a regular visitor over the years, I was delighted to accept the invitation to join residents, staff and local supporters of Nazareth Lodge in its 21st anniversary celebrations. The sun came out and a good time was had by all," Bob said.

"I was really pleased to hear that Nazareth Lodge has been recognised through the Gold Standard Framework for its palliative care work. This is testament to the team's focus on dignity in care and creating a home from home environment where people can remain without constant recourse to acute or secondary care services.

"Such high quality, end-of-life care is without doubt better for residents, their families and the NHS. This should be what we come to expect from all residential care providers."
