Two kayakers had to be rescued by lifeboatmen after drifting out to sea on the strong outgoing tide in Swanage Bay.

A person working at the lighthouse spotted the pair in distress south of Anvil Point. They had flashed lights to raise the alarm at 2.50pm yesterday.

The RNLI's inshore lifeboat was launched and by the time the crew reached them, the current had taken the kayakers a further mile west.

The pair were then towed safely back to shore.
