Yeovil Town attacker Lewis Young is believed to have suffered ankle ligament damage against Portsmouth, suggesting he could make a quicker return than first feared.

The half-time substitute lasted just three minutes of the 2-1 midweek defeat before sliding awkwardly near the home dugout at Huish Park. Despite being off the field of play, referee Chris Foy halted the game whilst Young received treatment.

The winger - brother of Manchester United’s Ashley - was stretchered from the pitch ten minutes later.

Medical staff iced Young’s right ankle in a bid to reduce swelling, before sending him to Yeovil District Hospital for an x-ray.

However, the Western Gazette understands the scan was only precautionary to rule out a break, with a soft tissue injury the initial diagnosis.

Young’s removal signalled the start of a dismal second half for the Glovers as manager Gary Johnson was given a selection headache ahead of Saturday’s visit of Colchester United.

Reading loanee Gozie Ugwu limped off with a recurrence of a hamstring injury after reporting himself fit before the game.

Defender Byron Webster also picked up his fifth booking of the season, ruling him out for the weekend. However, Ed Upson is available for selection having served a one-match ban.
