Late strike for Poole Town as perfect league start continues
POOLE Town continued their fantastic start to the season with a late winner at Chippenham Town.
The Dolphins were first to show with ex-Chippenham player Jon Davies drawing a fine save from Ben John.
Chippenham responded with an off-target effort from Isaac Reid before two Joe McClennan corners saw Alan Griffin head over and then have a header cleared.
The Bluebirds took the lead on 17 minutes when Griffin robbed the last defender and laid the ball to McClennan, whose near-post shot defeated Nick Hutchings.

John saved Chippenham with an excellent point-blank block from Richard Gillespie, while Davies shot wide and Dan Cann was also denied by the home goalkeeper.
After the break, Reid’s shot was saved by Hutchings and Poole’s Jamie Whisken was fortunate to only receive a caution when he felled Reid.
Poole equalised on 68 minutes when Greg Tindle fouled Carl Preston in the box and Steve Devlin converted the resultant penalty.
Poole won the match in the final minute when the hosts lost possession and Devlin rifled home a shot.
Lee Phillips almost snatched a point for the Bluebirds, but his shot hit the side netting.
