A large crack has opened up in a clay area next to a stretch of the Dorset coast path in Weymouth.

The 150ft long, 6ft deep crack has appeared on cliffs near Bowleaze Cove, on a clay section of coastline.

A Coastguard spokeswoman said they were aware of the crack and urged the public to stay away from the cliffs in case of any further movement.

A Dorset county council spokesman said usually these occurances are slow and progressive events but urged people to take notice of safety signs in the area.
