PROGRAMMED in partnership with Bournemouth Modern Jazz Club, Swanage Jazz and Soundstorm, the Studio Jazz season returns to Lighthouse, Poole's Centre for the Arts tonight (Friday), beginning with Derek Nash Acoustic Quartet. At the forefront of the British Jazz movement, Derek has been described by The Guardian as "one of the most versatile saxophonists in the UK today", and the Derek Nash Acoustic Quartet now features a new line-up made up from some of the best of British jazz. The multi-award winning Dave Newton is probably the busiest and most popular pianist on the British jazz scene today, while the rhythm section of with Geoff Gascoyne and Sebastiaan de Krom displays a musical telepathy that was honed to perfection during their years with Jamie Cullum. The quartet mainly plays original compositions by Derek and his father, Pat Nash, with strong flavours of the Blue Note days. Expect hints of New Orleans, Bill Evans, Lee Morgan, Gerry Mulligan and Paul Desmond. For tickets and further details call 0844 406 8666 or visit www.lighthousepoole.co.uk.
