Help for those sleeping rough in Dorset
NO-ONE in Dorset should be forced to sleep rough for a second night, thanks to a new initiative.
The six local authority housing departments in the county which form The Dorset Rough Sleepers Partnership have signed up to Streetlink which is a hotline number, smartphone app download and website which enables concerned members of the public to help connect a rough sleeper with local advice and services.
These initiatives have been made available through the Single Homeless Prevention Fund. The Dorset Rough Sleepers Partnership has been awarded £304,000.
Councillor Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Housing, Borough of Poole, said: "By signing up to Streetlink, housing authorities across Dorset are offering residents a simple way to help people they see sleeping rough. It is never easy to witness a person in that situation and a call to Streetlink could make a massive difference to someone."
