Hatful of medals for Wimborne athletes
WIMBORNE AC athletes left the County Championships at Kings Park with a hatful of medals. Established performers did their bit and some new faces also collected medals.
The under-13 boys were among the medals. Tom Bourne won a stunning 1500m in 5.03.3 with Liam Murphy-Parry getting bronze in 5.12.3. Alfie Beddow won the discus with 16m 87 and took silver in the shot with 6m24. Liam also had a bronze in the 200m in 29.9 and Lucas Noble a bronze in the 75m hurdles in 16.3. Ellott Symes won a first-time medal with an 800m bronze in 2.36.7.
In the under-13 girls, Grace Copeland showed tactical skill winning the 800m in 2.34.0 and the 1500m in 5.12.5. Pippa Hine was second in the 100m with 14.3 and then led Bethan Burley home for gold and silver in the 200m with 28.8 and 29.1 in a final which was dominated by the club, with four out of eight finalists. Bethan had an outstanding weekend and added gold in the javelin with 23.65 and in the shot with 8m02, and silver in the 70m hurdles 13.0 to her 200m medal.
The under-15 boys' medal haul was led by Jason Sotheran, with gold in the 800m in 2m10.7 and in the 1500m with 4m35.1. Ryan Long showed his all-rounder capabilities: he won the pole vault with 2m50, the triple jump with 10m44 and the 80m hurdles in 14.4, as well as claiming silver in the discus with 24m40 and a bronze in the long jump with 4m 52. Joe Miles took silver in the high jump, Piers Copeland landed a bronze in the 1500m with 4m57.5 and Liam Winton also a bronze with a 7m22 shot putt.

The under-15 girls is a tough age group but Abbie Hine won silver in the 3000m with 11m45.8 and Kelly Snook won two bronze medals –for high jump with 1m35 and hurdles in 13.8.
In the under-17 men Matt Curtis won the 100m hurdles in 15.0, was equal first in the pole vault with 3m30 and third in the high jump with 1m75. Christian Flavell got silver for his 65.9 in the 400m hurdles and Ryan Wallbridge was second in the 1500m on 4m 27.5.
Sharon Hutchings paced both the 800 and 1500 races for under-17s to perfection and walked away with golden times of 2.26.9 and 5m06.8. In the junior men category Jack Snook topped 3m30 to win the pole vault and then extended his personal best in the long jump to 6m22 for a silver medal. Callum Kennedy ground out a very positive 5k in 16m40.9 in breezy conditions for his gold. Hannah Winton spent a frustrating afternoon trying to hit the board in her triple jump and took away silver with 9m33.
On his first showing in the Dorset County Championship Ron De Bique lifted gold in the 110m hurdles in a time of 19.4 and took silver in the 400m with 54.4. Dave Pearson won the pole vault with 3m50 with Paul Flavell in second place on 2m60. Paul was also second in the 110m hurdles with 20.6. Dave also medalled in the Masters 100 with 13.2. Mark Copeland took Masters silver in the 800m in 2m20.1 and George Billett pushed the shot out to 10m79 for a bronze medal. Trudi Carter won the seniors' long jump with 4m31 and the pole vault on 2m90 and Roz Hutton took silver in the hammer with 27m59.
