"It's been in my mind for quite some time to get him involved, and the timing seems to be perfect for us to tap into his knowledge."

Redknapp was favourite to become England manager, before Roy Hodgson was appointed in May. The 65-year-old left Tottenham in June and returns to the club he left in 1992 after nine years in charge.

AFC Bournemouth manager Paul Groves and his assistant Shaun Brooks worked under Redknapp during his second spell as Portsmouth manager, which brought the FA Cup to Fratton Park in 2008.

"Paul and Shaun will have the final say on all football matters, there's no doubt about that" added Mitchell.

"They're very astute people and they're not above listening to anyone, and I'm sure they can learn from him."

Redknapp will join the team on today's trip to Yeovil Town.
