SHAFTESBURY Rotary Club recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The club, which stages the famous Gold Hill Fair every July, marked the milestone with a dinner at St Mary's School on Saturday 16th February.

Club president Andrew Green welcomed guests including the Mayor of Shaftesbury, Simon Pritchard, leaders of neighbouring Rotary clubs, explorer Colonel John Blashford-Snell, and two founder members of the Club in 1963, Joe Rutter and Tom Squire.

A spokesman for the club said: "The celebration went very well. The club has enjoyed 50 good years, and has made its mark with the Gold Hill Fair. We hope that it will continue to thrive for the next 50 years."
