Grandparents’ childcare is worth £11 billion
Grandparents are saving £11billion in childcare each year as families struggle with rising costs, it was claimed yesterday.
The average grandparent spends ten hours a week looking after their grandchildren, with just three per cent paid.
It has been estimated by insurance company RIAS that 5.8 million grandparents look after young ones – saving their own children £1,888-a-year – and a third of those say the amount of childcare has increased since last year.
