Gillingham Town will be without Danny Thompson when they aim to continue their march up the Western Football League Premier Division against basement side Barnstable Town.

Thompson was carried off in the Gills 4-0 win over Buckland Athletic and is likely to miss the rest of the season with ligament damage.

A club spokesperson said: "It has now been confirmed that although Danny Thompson didn't break any bones , he did suffer major tendon and ligament damage.

"Usually these types of injuries take four to six weeks to heal so it is very likely that he will miss the rest of the season."

Thompson starred in November as the Gills swept aside Barnstaple, with two goals from Dan Cox helping the Dorset side to a comfortable 3-1 win.

The Gills have been in fine form, having scored ten goals in their last two games. The visitors to HArdings Lane may find it hard to break down a stubborn Gills defence - which has kept two consecutvie clean sheets.

After Saturday's game against Barnstaple, the Gills face larkhill Athletic on Tuesday to end a run of four consecutive games at home.

Gillingham are chasing a place in the top six, and with sevearl games in hand - things are starting to look up at Hardings Lane.
