A GARDEN designer from Shaftesbury has won a slot at Hampton Court Flower Show and needs to secure a sponsor if his vision is to become a reality.

Robert Kennett is based at the Pythouse Kitchen Garden at West Hatch near Tisbury. His design has been accepted by RHS judges but won't make it to July's show unless he can attract sponsorship to cover costs of around £17,000.

Robert's show garden is inspired by Amnesty International's Butterflies of Hope for Nicaragua. The campaign aims to highlight women's rights in Nicaragua and has resulted in people of all ages and from all over the world designing thousands of butterflies, either on paper or online, as a sign of hope for oppressed women.

The conceptual show garden designed by Robert features a 3.5-metres pink cube containing lush planting, Nicaragua's national flower, the frangipani, at its heart and hundreds of live tropical butterflies. The cube will be entangled in barbed wire, and flanked with two "wings" of billowing grasses to represent the hope for freedom.

Robert said: "It is great to have been selected but I'm trying to control my excitement because it won't happen unless I can find a sponsor."

Headline sponsors have their name featured in the title of the garden. The show is attended by around 150,000 people and receives international media coverage.

Robert needs to secure sponsorship quickly because the deadline is Friday 27th January. For more information, contact Robert on 01747 871614 or email robert@robertkennett.co.uk
