"On the run up to Christmas make sure your presents are in the house, out of sight or locked to something secure if they have to be stored in a garage or shed.

"Use good quality locks to ensure these buildings remain secure, and don't leave valuable items on display through windows.

"Don't make it easy for those not prepared to buy their own gifts.

"We've received reports of alcohol and frozen meat being stolen from garages recently, so members of the public should be wary of storing these sorts of products – or any high value items – in their garages.

"We have already received reports of further offences in December.

"Please follow our crime prevention advice to reduce the chances of criminals spoiling your Christmas.

"Be vigilant and call 999 in an emergency or dial 101 for non-urgent calls if you see anything suspicious."
