Games zone on way for Verwood recreation ground
GROUND works start next week prior to installing a brand-new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) on Verwood Memorial Recreation Ground on Ringwood Road. Measuring 33m x 20m, the MUGA will be marked out for five-a-side football, netball and basketball. New access paths will also be laid from both ends of the recreation ground and additional seating will be installed.
The £100,000 project is being led by Active Games for All and funds are coming from several sources including Verwood Town Council, who have pledged to match fund all monies raised up to £50,000, Synergy Housing who gave a grant of £16,000, many other fundraising events, and The Veolia Environmental Trust who have awarded a grant of £20,000 through the Landfill Communities Fund.
Vice chairman of Active Games for All, Marilyn Whatmore, says: "The MUGA will provide a facility for a wide range of individuals and groups to play and exercise free of charge at any time. It will be a real boost for Verwood and we cannot wait to see it complete."
The executive director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, McNabb Laurie, adds: "We support community and environmental projects across the UK. MUGAs like this are a real benefit to community life as they provide people of all ages with free, all-weather spaces where they can meet up to exercise, play sport and have fun."
