Fun and games at the summer fete
TRAFFIC was halted temporarily when a column of costumed supporters made their way through the town centre to the Pageant Gardens, Sherborne, for the opening of Sherborne Lions' Club's annual summer fete.
The parade was joined this year by The Yokel Jugglers, who made a colourful and entertaining display.

PAGEANT LINE-UP: After processing through the town centre, costumed competitors taking part in Sherborne Lions' Club's annual summer fete were joined by Mayor Jane Smith and Lions' president Brian Downton
Lion president Brian Downton was joined by Sherborne Town Mayor (Councillor Jane Smith), and Yeovil Town Crier Bruce Trigger. The fancy dress competition was judged by the mayor and the group entry, with a prize of £100, was won by The Yokel Jugglers, with the second prize of £50 going to an excellent family group of very young plumbers.
Despite the fete having to be cancelled in May due to bad weather, many different charities filled the gardens with games and stalls.
Entertainment in the main arena included an impressive display from Bao's Lung Fei Tai Chi Association. Also performing were the talented Yetminster Irish Dancers, and the Sherborne Town Junior Band, conducted by David Birtie.
The Sherborne Lions' ladies did an excellent job supplying teas and home-made cakes while the Lions' cooks slaved over a hot barbecue to satisfy the queues for burgers and hot-dogs.
