Foundation place to give children support
DORSET County Council has won a place on a Government initiative to help the authority provide early intervention for struggling families.
The Early Intervention Foundation (EIF) announced last week the county council has secured one 20 places in the UK. The Foundation will provide advice and support to an appointed Dorset commissioner to help the county council decide on early intervention programmes aiming to break the cycle of underachievement and tackle the root cause of social problems. It will support the council and relevant organisations in providing a bespoke service for children and families in need of support to achieve their full potential.
Rebecca Knox, the council's cabinet member for children's safeguarding and families, said: "The first few years of a child's life have a major impact on their future development. If we can tackle the root of a problem early on, we can help prevent matters getting worse."
