Wheeldon's Alice on a big screen near you
CHRISTOPHER Wheeldon, who celebrates his 40th birthday today, Friday, was born in Yeovil and began his ballet training at the age of eight.
After a starry career in England and the US, the choreographer became the first person commissioned to create a full length ballet for the Royal Ballet in 20 years, and his The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland became an immediate hit.
It is being broadcast live by satellite from Covent Garden to venues around the world, next Thursday 28th March, and can be seen locally at Bridport Electric Palace, Christchurch Regent Centre, Dorchester Plaza, Salisbury Odeon, Street Strode Theatre and Yeovil Cineworld, all starting at 7.15pm.

Lewis Carroll's literary menagerie of colourful quirky characters come to vibrant life in this production. There's a twitchy White Rabbit, a tap dancing Mad Hatter, a sinuous caterpillar and of course Alice, the Knave of Hearts and the scary Queen of Hearts.
Freedom to dance
THE Jasmin Vardimon dance company returns to Poole's Lighthouse next week with the eagerly-awaited new work, Freedom.
The award-winning choreographer and Sadler's Wells associate artist's new creation will be performed at 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday 27th and 28th March
Exploring notions of what keeps our imagination free, this full-length dance theatre production promises breathtaking physicality with detailed and brutally visceral characterisation.
Informed by Vardimon's theatricality and daring, Freedom will be performed by a versatile company of international dancers.
The company was founded in London in 1997 and quickly became a significant element on the British dance theatre scene.
