"We have entered for the past three years and Nicky said this year was going to be the last because of the amount of paperwork they need.
"The standard they expect is just so high, to be recognised is as good as it can ever get."
The South West England regional winner will be put into contention to bag the national title.
The shop was shortlisted among the top fish and chip shops in the country following industry experts judging their initial entries on paper, before carrying out in-shop mystery judging.
The other shortlisted shops in Mr Else's geographical area are Bishopston Fish Bar in Bristol and Salt and Vinegar in Ferndown.
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held at The Lancaster London hotel in January, which will be hosted by Michelin-starred chef, Jean Christophe Novelli.
