The film by Fox Searchlight Productions features big name stars including Michael Sheen and Carey Mulligan.
Filming locations include Sherborne Abbey, Castleton Church and Abbey Close, which will be transformed into an 1870s market square in the town of Casterbridge.
Filming is scheduled to take place from Monday to Wednesday. Fox Searchlight has assured local traders and residents that disruption will be kept to a minimum.

Welsh actor Michael Sheen played David Fox in Frost/Nixon in 2008 and Brian Clough in The Damned United in 2009. He is currently appearing in Channel 4's Masters of Sex.
Carey Mulligan, an English actress, made her debut as Kitty Bennett in 2005's Pride and Prejudice, and more recently played Daisy Buchanan alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Great Gatsby.
Far From the Madding Crowd was Thomas Hardy's fourth novel and first major literary success. It was last seen on the big screen in 1967.
Kim Macinnes, manager of the Sue Ryder charity shop near the abbey, says it will be business as usual during filming.
She said: "We are happily co-operating with the film company by having our signs and windows hidden and disguised. We are even having two of our windows dressed in Victorian style as part of the film.
"Our prime position next to the abbey gives us a ringside seat."
She said more donated goods to sell were needed and people will be able to take goods to sell and buy items during their normal opening hours of 9am to 5pm.
