ESTATE agent Rob Ward ended a police search for a missing woman when he realised she had walked into his Blandford office.

The woman, in her 70s and from the Newcastle area, called in at Goadsby on Tuesday saying she wanted to buy a house.

But, as he got into conversation with her, he became concerned that there could be a problem.

Branch manager Mr Ward said: "I asked her where she was living and she said the Crown Hotel in Blandford so I asked where she was from and she said Newcastle and that she wanted to buy a house tomorrow.

"She was a little bit confused but she was well dressed and well spoken and it didn't seem obvious that anything was wrong.

"But as we talked I began to think something wasn't right. She told me her son's name and the pharmaceutical company he worked for.

"I got the number and asked a colleague to call it.

"The next thing was a phone call from the police in Newcastle asking us to keep her there.

"Two cups of tea later two local police officers came in.

"They were really nice with her and had a little chat and she went off with them to arrange getting her back with her family.

"Later I had a phone call from her daughter-in law thanking me profusely for what I'd done."

Mr Ward said he understood that the woman had got on a train from near her home to Weymouth, then got a bus to Blandford.

He added: "She said she liked Blandford.

"We gave her a copy of the Blackmore Vale Magazine to read while she was with us - she enjoyed it."

Mr Ward later told the Crown Hotel that their guest would not be staying there on Tuesday night as she was would be back with her family.

He added: "I'm just glad it all turned out well in the end."
