Enter Ferndown in Bloom
THE Ferndown In Bloom committee has reformed to plan this year's competition designed to encourage residential and commercial property owners to make Ferndown more beautiful. With a new chairman, Councillor Jean Read, who has represented the town council on the independent committee for four years, and again sponsored and supported by the Haskins Garden Centre, there will be over £500 worth of prizes to be won.
The main competition categories are Best Front Garden, Best Business, Retail, Commercial or Public House Best park home or sheltered accommodation garden, patio or balcony and Best first time entrant. These will be judged after the closing date of 6th July.

Other competitions including a bid to find the Tallest Sunflower and best new Allotment will allow more time for entrants with a closing date for entry 31 August. New to the competition this year will be a photographic category, where people in the area will be able to submit images which capture the beauty of the Ferndown area. Entries can be delivered at the town council offices.
Full information will be available from The Haskins Garden Centre at Longham where general manager Simon Morris says they hope to be able to offer useful horticultural advice to anyone wishing to win any of the trophies: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to again support the Ferndown In Bloom competition and we look forward to hosting the presentation event in the Autumn."

Jean Read says that she hopes that the weather is kinder for gardeners this year compared to last: "In bloom competitions across the country experienced a dramatic drop in the number of entries as home owners were not proud enough of their gardens due to the climate. Let's hope for a great spring and summer."
