East Dorset parking fine scam
IF someone purporting to be an officer from East Dorset District Council telephones you to say that you must pay a parking fine - don't believe them.
That is the message from the authority which has been made aware of a potential scam.
Martha Perry, community safety officer for Christchurch and East Dorset Partnership said: "We have received a report of a potential scam where a lady received a phone call from someone who claimed to be working for the council, asking her to pay for a car park fine over the phone. Luckily the lady recognised that the call was not genuine and did not part with any of her personal or financial information. However, we would like to warn others to be vigilant. The council will always notify you in writing about an outstanding parking fine and will not contact you and ask for payment over the phone."
If in doubt about whether a call from the council is genuine, please call the East Dorset District Council Offices on 01202 886201.
