Drivers experience 10,000 jams (and 700 kisses) in lifetime behind wheel
The modern British motorist now spends the equivalent of three years and four months of their lives behind the wheel of their car, it emerged yesterday.
The detailed study into the extent of our dependency on the motor vehicle found the typical adult spends well over six hours in their car every week. On top of that they will also be at the wheel for around three hours and 40 minutes on a weekend. The report also revealed that around 55 per cent of us regularly use the car to travel a distance which is easily walkable.
The study of 2,000 drivers was carried out by Skobbler, developers of an iPhone sat nav app ‘GPS Navigation 2’.
The study also revealed the average motorist will jump 87 red lights, fill-up with petrol 2,214 times and make 1,992 phone calls during a lifetime behind the wheel. They will also drive 269,296 miles, get lost 371 times and get stuck in traffic nearly 10,000 times.

Marcus Thielking, of Skobbler, added: “Being a motorist involves a lot more than just driving and whilst we all try to be sensible drivers it would seem we are all guilty of a few misdemeanours.”
And with Valentine’s Day fast-approaching the typical adult will also apparently share 680 kisses in the car.
We regret to report though that amorous feeling is dwarfed by the reported 2,974 rows with a partner while they are behind the wheel.
