Dorset woman plans 800-mile charity cycle
A WOMAN from Marnhull is cycling 800 miles in two months to support a project that tackles poverty in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
Daisy Mash, a 22-year-old graduate, is travelling to the country early next year to work on the development programme for three months. She will team up with other volunteers to tackle some of the problems facing the local community through the government funded International Citizen Service (ICS).
Daisy, who is already well on her way to her 800-mile target, said: "My cyclathon is a way of making sure developing countries can continue to benefit from the work of future volunteers, so it's vital I reach my target. I've been biking around the local area and have already completed longer routes to Bournemouth and Salisbury. I'm also planning to cycle to Bristol and Oxford over the coming weeks in order to raise my total mileage to 800."
"The project I'm working on aims to improve the education and economic situation of the most vulnerable such as women and children. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside people from a different culture who have requested help from young volunteers to fight poverty and make a difference where it's needed most. I'm really excited to get out there."
