The role of Police and Crime Commissioner
The PCC job is a new role, set up to replace Police Authorities. The commissioner will set local policing priorities, hold Dorset Police to account and have the authority to hire and fire the chief constable.

The commissioner will be held to account by a police and crime panel - made up of representatives from each local authority.
Legislation allows the commissioner to earn between £65,000 and £100,000 per year.
How the election works
The voting system for the PCC elections is the Supplementary Vote system. Voters can vote for their top two candidates, but can still just vote for one person if they prefer.
A candidate will be elected if they receive more than 50 per cent of the first-preference votes. If no candidate initially gets over 50 per cent, the two highest ranked candidates will have their second-preference votes counted, with the winner being elected.
When polls are open
Polling stations across Dorset will be open between 7am and 10pm on Thursday November 15.
Only those who are registered will be able to cast their vote.

There are four candidates standing for election in Dorset. Three candidates are from the main political parties (Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat) - while one independent candidate is standing.
