Marcus Martin's red card made the Cornish side's task even harder, but Ash struck in injury time to secure a vital point for the basement side.
The Magpies had not played a league game since December 8, and still haven't secured three points since November 17.

Dorchester started 2013 with confidence and took the lead against Truro after 21 minutes. Dan Thompson's header opened the scoring, but the Magpies couldn't hold the lead until half time.
Three minutes before the break, Andy Watkins found Kieffer Moore who fired past Jason Matthews to tie up the scores.
Both sides wasted good chances to go ahead, before Watson smashed the ball home off the underside of the bar, after his initial shot was blocked by Ash.
The Dorset side controlled the closing stages, and when Martin was dismissed for his second yellow card - the result looked safe for the Magpies.
However, in the 92nd minute, Truro captain Ash hit a powerful shot past Matthews to secure a vital point for the bottom side in the Blue Square South.
