Doc Martin actor Martin Clunes slams reports of "playing doctor" in real life emergency
Doc Martin actor Martin Clunes has rubbished reports in the national media that he tried to play doctor when his wife was taken ill.
It has been reported that Clunes, who is married to producer Philippa Braithwaite, put his medical know-how into action to prevent his wife from having a 'nonsensical' operation.
Speaking to the Blackmore Vale Magazine this morning, the Dorset-based actor said: "It is absolute nonsense.
"She was in acute abdominal pain. All sorts of tests were being done and they didn't know what it was.

"My wife had been taken out of a hotel at 4am and we just decided to go home and see our own physician.
"Somebody obviously thought it would make an eye-catching headline but at no point was I playing doctor. I would always respect the opinion of a professional."
Clunes spoke with the Blackmore Vale Magazine shortly after appearing on ITV's Daybreak show to promote his Buckham Fair, which takes place in Beaminster this Sunday.
"We're really excited about the fair," he said. "It should be a lovely day. It has great support from local businesses and will be bigger and better than ever.
"We've got lots of great attractions lined up, including a dog show - I'm looking forward to judging the novelty class and the Bob Grave horsemanship demonstration should be great.
"Parking has been a problem in the past but we have doubled the capacity to 60 acres and will be getting cars off the road really quickly this year."
