Former employees, local businesses and loyal readers are invited to join the party.

The evening will take a step back in time with historic displays of the newspaper’s heritage from its origin to the present day. A three-course dinner will be inspired by classic dishes from the centuries.

Head of advertising at the Western Gazette Linn Hughes said: “This is a significant milestone in not only the Western Gazette’s history but that of our community.

“We hope businesses and organisations that we have supported over the years join in the jubilations with us.

“The Western Gazette plays an important role in our community and this is as much a celebration for our readers and advertisers as it is for us. We hope to see them at the party.”

Steve Carpenter will host a charity auction in aid of the Western Gazette’s two adopted causes, the Flying Colours Appeal for Yeovil Women’s Hospital and St Margaret’s Hospice.

Westland Leisure Complex, the Quedam Shopping Centre and Perspicuity are among the businesses supporting the event.

Tickets are priced at £50 per person with a table of ten costing £450.

To mark its 275th anniversary, the newspaper is also publishing a souvenir supplement – and is looking for readers’ memories and anecdotes of the Western Gazette over the years.

Former employee Terry Penny has shared his collection of photographs of staff at work and at play, two of which are printed on this page.

If you have mementos to share, contact the newsdesk on 01935 709734 or email newsdesk@westgaz.co.uk.
