Carlisle United striker Paddy Madden could hold the key to staying at Yeovil Town with the two clubs likely to reach a decision on his future today.

The Irishman has fired five goals in as many npower League One games during his month with the Glovers that could have ended with Saturday's 1-0 triumph over Crewe Alexandra.

Madden's temporary deal expires after next weekend's FA Cup clash at Preston North End but it is unlikely the Cumbrians will want the 22-year-old cup tied if he is to return to Brunton Park.

United manager Greg Abbott has said he expects to speak to Yeovil manager Gary Johnson today, with the Glovers' chief adding the player himself could swing any extension.

Johnson said: "It is D-Day because you are going to want to have him available for the cup. Me and Greg will have a chat, we will see where we are with it and I cannot tell you any more because I don't know any more.

"They lost on Saturday against a decent side in Bournemouth so we will wait and see. I think a lot of it will be down to Paddy's discussions with Carlisle."

Doubt currently surrounds the FA Cup availability of some of Yeovil's other loan stars with only Fulham definitely granting Dan Burn permission to play.

"Fulham said that it was up to Danny Burn and we are really pleased to say that he wants to play for us in the cup," said Johnson.

"I think Gozie Ugwu (Reading) will be okay but Daniel Johnson is a definite no, Aston Villa told us that when we took him.

"Korey Smith (Norwich City) is unlikely but we will give them a call and see what they're like. Sometimes they don't like to say it early and a week before you can sometimes put them under a little bit of pressure.

"I would like them all to be available as we would like to progress and we are a smallish club that lives for the cup and it would be nice to have one or two big games like we used to have."
