Mr Underhill said: "This was a unanimous decision. There was a strong range of candidates and the panel had a difficult job. I would like to thank all the candidates for their interest."
The panel will also today consider Mr Underhill's draft police and crime plan for Dorset, which sets out his priorities for the next five years.
It will also consider his recommendation to increase the police council tax charge by 1.95 per cent in 2013 to 2014.
