The most successful British Paralympic cyclist in history, Darren, who is married to Maria and has a son Brandon, was awarded the OBE three years ago. Also in 2009 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Bournemouth University.
A former pupil of Hillside, Cranborne Middle and Queen Elizabeth's Schools, he started cycling at the age of 11, and was soon competing at international level. However, an accident during a cycle race in Ireland left him with cerebral palsy. He returned to cycling to keep fit and the racing bug returned.
