FLORISTRY students from Kingston Maurward College will make the victory bouquets for the medal winners at the 2012 Olympic sailing event in Weymouth this summer.

London based floral designers Jane Packer, were selected as the Olympic Committee's choice to design and create over 4,000 bouquets in the final closing weeks of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Jane Packer's commitment to sustainability and UK sourced flowers and foliage secured the bid.

The Kingston Maurward student designers will be made up from a team of both Level 2 and Level 3 floristry students, and trained by Jane Packer's Louise Govier, who is concessions manager at John Lewis in Oxford Street.

Louise said: "I'm very impressed with the students' confidence and understanding of the brief – they're doing incredibly well with the bouquets, and they're delighted to be taking part in such a prestigious event."

Training sessions will be held over the next few weeks, in order for all the team to understand the concept of the design and how to construct the 60 bouquets for the sailing events, so that all 4,400 bouquets for all events are identical across the country.

The bouquets will be made entirely from UK grown materials, and using students from local communities to create them.

Kingston Maurward College Floristry tutor Tracey Nadin said: "It is an exciting experience for the students to be part of such an historical event, and working in partnership with such a well-respected floristry company, it's a brilliant learning opportunity for us all!"
